What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness meditation has been clinically proven by the top institutions in the world to be one of the most effective life-skills one can learn to reduce stress and boost an overall state of well-being in our lives.
When we learn the life-skills needed to create a new relationship to the way we usually react in stressful situations, we decrease the amount of cortisol (bad stress hormone) that we release and learn how to respond more skillfully in whatever situation we find ourselves in.

Stress causes us to react and loose emotional control, it is a major cause of obesity because cortisol absorbs into and creates the fat layer around our stomach, a lead cause of hypertension, cancer, chronic pain, migraines, allergies, immune system deficiency, heart disease and so much more.
Mindfulness training has been made popular by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Stress Reduction Clinic (now Center for Mindfulness) at the University of Massachusetts. Mindfulness is a tool to identify and distinguish stressful responses within our mind and body, causing a powerful shift in the way that we live our lives – becoming more centered, resilient and ultimately cultivating compassion and happiness.
What can I expect in the 8-week program?
In these mindfulness Toronto training sessions you will be guided by Michael Apollo, to cultivate a state of deep present moment awareness and experience (body, breath, sensations, sounds, emotions and feelings) without the inner judgment or analyzing mind that usually takes us into various modes of stress, tension, anxiety and even depression.
We will explore many mindful exercises to incorporate into your everyday life such as:
- Seated mindfulness practice; deep relaxation by learning how to observe your body, breath, sound and thoughts with ease
- Mindful walking
- Mindful yoga
- Laying meditations: Scanning your body and deep relaxation exercises
- Group dialogue to explore the experiences and sensations that we all share
- Spoken teachings on the essence of mindful living, loving and practice provided by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Shinzen Young and many more.
- Home practice audio discs and a Meditation Guidebook will be provided to guide you in the program and beyond.
